Week 21, 2012

Solid week Cannot display training data. If you're viewing it in an RSS feeder (such as Google Reader) you'll need to open the original post to see it. I finally went to the gym on Monday. Then regular intervals on Tuesday; this time we did short ones: 20 times 300m. My pace was not spectacular, but given the weather and the fact that only 3 days earlier I did 52K, I'm rather happy I finished them all. Easy run on Wednesday and my swimming debut on Thursday -- more about that later. Then I did some hills on Friday; again up and down the bridge, although this time I did some easy running beforehand. Finally on Sunday for logistic reasons I couldn't go for a long run but I managed to squeeze in two shorter ones and, especially since it was time for a slightly lighter week anyway, that worked just fine. Race-wise I gave up my hopes for the Lakeland 50 and instead subscribed for The Clyde Stride Ultra Marathon -- a 40miles race in Glasgow. It should be much simpler (sho

No activity week, followed by the best week ever Cannot display training data. If you're viewing it in an RSS feeder (such as Google Reader) you'll need to open the original post to see it. This was a crappy week; I was in Portugal and didn't feel much like running. I only went for one run on Friday. If you look at my speed during this training you may think I was out for a walk. Not so. I don't know good places for running around Braga, so usually I end up going up the Bom Jesus hill ; and that's a hell of a hill to climb. During this session I did a total ascent of 560m; and such an ascent can do that to your pace! Cannot display training data. If you're viewing it in an RSS feeder (such as Google Reader) you'll need to open the original post to see it. The following week I decided to step up my game. On Monday I again attacked Bom Jesus, but this time with a twist. I would go 4 minutes uphill and then back up and go down for 1 minute. That means that

Week 18, 2012

Visitors-week + one super long run. Cannot display training data. If you're viewing it in an RSS feeder (such as Google Reader) you'll need to open the original post to see it. For most of the week I had guests so not much time (nor energy :) to do any sports. In fact I didn't do anything the whole week so when they were leaving on Sunday morning I decided to at least finish off with a long run. They dropped me off in Baarn and I set off from there. It didn't start well. It was cold and windy and right away I lost my way; or rather what I thought would be a bridge turned out to be a ferry crossing point, with the ferry not operating on Sunday. Since there weren't any close bridges this mistake cost me dearly: 9K. That meant that instead of the planned 45K I'd have to do 54K. I decided that 50K will be (more than?) enough and walked the last stretch. What I didn't realize was that the GPS was not very reliable and according to my watch I did "only&qu

Getting back to my training routine. Cannot display training data. If you're viewing it in an RSS feeder (such as Google Reader) you'll need to open the original post to see it. Ok, one week of after-marathon recovery gone; time to get back to business. On Tuesday intervals on the track: 5x1200m. I have to say I still felt quite stiff so had to hold back a bit. Ended up averaging 4:01 min/km. (Btw. my speed sensor gave up on me so no pace data for the first few runs this week, until I replaced it). On Thursday just an easy run in the afternoon. I was hoping to follow up with another training in the evening but it was not meant to be. So instead I did it on Friday. I wanted to do some hills, but that's not an easy fit. So in the end I just ran over the Nescio bridge . Up, down on the other side, back up and down again. That's one rep, which took me around 8:30 (I didn't push it) and I did 5 of those. Finally on Sunday the usual long run. I went at a leisurely pace
